What have we been up to in Week 4?

Wow the term is flowing by real fast!

Next week we are going on a trip to the Auckland Museum so make sure you have all brought back your permission slip form to be able to go. The Awesome Owl teachers are looking forward to going.

For writing this week, we were looking at the new playground being built. We made a few visits to see the progress and took lots of pictures. We even got to draw our own playground with what we wish the school could build. Lastly, we got to make our own diggers, trucks and cranes that could help the playground being built. Have a look at our learning story!

Discovery time was also a blast! We are still working on space and using our Habits of Mind to help us discover these. Here are some pictures from today:

We were making stars for our mobile.

Room 1 was painting the planets for their solar system.

What have we been up to this week??

The Awesome Owls have had a fantastic week!

Some children have made a great start to Term 4 and have already moved up in reading levels. Well done!

For our writing experiences, we were learning how to take care and look after the nature around us at school. On Tuesday we went to the worm farm and talked about what happens in the worm farm and what we can feed it. On Wednesday we planted some strawberries, lettuce and tomatoes in the school garden. It is important that the plants get water and sunshine to help them grow. On Thursday we went to visit the school pigs - Hettie and Percy. We were all able to have a pat and a cuddle, and run around the pen with them!

For discovery, we have begun looking at Space!!!

Room 1 is looking at Planets.
Room 3 is looking at Stars and the galaxy.
Room 4 is looking at Rockets.

We were able to link this learning with our Habits of Mind! Some of the habits we used today were: New Ideas, Listening, Past knowledge and Working with Others.

Here are some pictures from today:

These are Room 4's Rockets.

They will continue to make them in discovery time in week 4!

What's been going on in the Awesome Owls Week 2?

This week in The Awesome Owls we have had some great fun! Our writing experiences are still lots of fun and all the children get involved! Our focus was on friendly races this week.

On Monday we made paper planes and had a competition to see who could fly their plane further.
On Tuesday we had races between the lines to see who could pass the water balloon the fastest. Then we got to play over and under with the balloon.
On Wednesday we made paper boats for the race on Thursday.
On Thursday we took our boats to the pool and tried to see which boat would make it across the pool first. Charis's boat won! Yay!

Have a look at some of the pictures below :)
